’சோழ நாடு சோறுடைத்து’ என்பது முதுமொழி. சோற்றுக்குப் பஞ்சமில்லாத சோழநாட்டில் திருச்சோற்றுத்துறை என ஒர் ஊரின் பெயர் அமைந்திருப்பதில் வியப்பேதும் இல்லை. திருவையாற்றை மையமாக கொண்ட சபஸ்தானத் தலங்களில் திருச்சோற்றுத்துறை மூன்றாவது தலமாகும். இத்தலத்திற்கு தெற்கில் ஓடும் வாய்காலுக்கு சோற்றுடையான் வாய்க்கால் என்று பெயர். திருமழப்பாடியில் நடைப்பெற்ற நந்தியம்பெருமானின் திருமணத்தின் போது உணவுவகை அனைத்தும் இத்தலத்திலிருந்து சென்றதாக வரலாறு.காசி மாநகரில் பஞ்சம் நீக்கி பசிப்பிணி தீர்க்கும் அன்னபூரணி போல் இத்தலத்திலும் தேவி தம்மை நாடிவரும் பக்தர்களின் பசிப்பிணி நீக்கி அருள்மழை பொழிகிறாள்.காசி விஸ்வநாதர் போல் திருச்சோற்றுத்துறை ஓதனேஸ்வரர் பிறவிப் பிணி நீக்கி அருள்புரிகிறார்.

As you indicated, pathigam means a group of ten songs. pADal petra sthalam means a temple which was eulogized by one of the nAyanmArs, especially the tEvAram trinity--appar, sambhandar, and sundarar. Any temple which is blessed by the song of a nAyanmAr is considered more sacred than other temples which did not get sung about.
tIrttam means water (jalam) in Sanskrit. In association with a temple it refers to a river or a tank (pond). It is also called pushkaraNi. Usually each tank is given some specific name which has been in existence time immemorial. The tIrttam is one of the identities along with the name of the vigrahams of the principal deities. Hope these answer your questions.
Beginner:
Sorry I misunderstood your second question. When there is no kuLam in a temple, the tIrttam is named after a well within the temple precincts. For example in azhagar koyil (near Madurai), there is a stream called nUpura gangai flowing from the hilltop and passing through the perumAL koyil at the foothills. The water collects in a tank and flows through. The tIrttam is called nUpura gangai (the river ganga was supposed to flow through the ankle of Lord Vishnu and hence such a name--nUpuram means anklet)
